Let’s start with a basic test, the Samsung Magician offers a quick look of the drive's performance. The 980 Pro 1TB reaches 7.1GB/s reading and 5.1GB writing speeds. On the other side the 980 1TB reached 3.3GB/sec and 2.97GB/sec reading/writing speed, as expected...
What’s rather interesting is that the Random IOPS on the 980 1TB for the reading part are higher than the 980Pro, while the random writing IOPS are higher on the 980Pro.
The AJA Test System show a quick overview of the drive's reading/writing speed. The performance is somewhat different than the one we had in our previous tests. In any case the 980Pro 1TB is faster (as expected).
Passing to a more well-known benchmark, the ATTO Disk Benchmark shows the performance with various file sizes from 0.5Kb, 1Kb, 2Kb up to 8192MB file sizes...We run the tests various times in all cases the 980Pro showed a strange behavior dropping its reading/writing speed after 32Kb file sizes. The 980 1TB showed normal behavior reaching its promised speeds.
Up to 32Kb, the performance difference between them is almost to none, again at the writing part after 64KB the 980 Pro didn't performed as it should...
Passing to the newest ATTO Disk Benchmark 4.01.0F1, here things are much better for the 980Pro 1TB with very good speeds (even didn't reached the promised 7GB/sec reading)
The Samsung 980 1TB also delivers performance according to its specs:
Plotting the above results in two axes, again we see that until 16Kb, both SSDs seem to perform similar for the reading part
while at the writing part until 32Kb, are very close, after that point the 980Pro will lead as expected.
Getting some more information about the drive's Temperature/Performance from HWInfo64 software. The 980Pro 1TB seems to be slight cooler than the 980 1TB SSD, reaching 56/63 as max reported temperatures, while the 980 1TB reached 59/69 temperature for the same tests. The low/average temperatures are as lower for the 980Pro 1TB SSD.
