SONY spotlights SACD-capable, progressive scan DVDs, and dual compatible DVD recorder in 2003

SONY spotlights SACD-capable, progressive scan DVDs, and dual compatible DVD recorder in 2003

General Interest Feb 25,2003 0

Responding to increasing consumer demands for high quality DVD performance, Sony today announced its 2003 lineup of DVD players. Many of these new DVD players feature seamless multi-disc management systems and easy navigation for consumers with growing DVD collections. Leading the 2003 line-up are two new Super Audio CD/DVD combination players (including a 400-disc changer) combining high-resolution audio with outstanding video performance, three progressive scan models, a stylish new transportable player, and a dual compatible DVD-RW/+RW home recorder.

The new DVD models feature an elegant, slim design, allowing for easy integration into existing home theater systems.

"As the groundbreaking technology innovator and market leader in DVD Video, Sony continues to provide superior DVD products that allow consumers to take full advantage of their growing DVD libraries," said Joseph Stinziano, director of DVD marketing for Sony Electronics' Home Entertainment Products Division. "With models such as a 400 disc SACD/DVD changer and dual compatible recorder offering multi-disc management features, we're providing a convenient, elegant way for consumers to further benefit from the advantages of DVD home entertainment."

Powerful Audio and Video Performance

Leading this year's core line-up is the DVP-CX985V DVD changer, with 400-Disc Explorer™ library management system that offers multi-channel SACD playback, Precision Cinema Progressive™, 12 bit/108 MHz Video D/A Converter and MP3 playback. Movie lovers will treasure the crisp images and vivid picture quality Sony's proprietary progressive scan technology provides, and music lovers will enjoy the high-resolution reproduction of SACD multi-channel performance.

In addition, the unit's CD-R/RW and MP3 playback capabilities allow music lovers to listen to their favorite compressed audio files. The DVP-CX985V will be available in September for about $400.

Leading the Charge in Dual Recordable DVD

Sony's new RDR-GX7 home recorder is the industry's first dual RW compatible home DVD recorder. With the ability to record in DVD-RW/-R and DVD+RW, the RDR-GX7 DVD recorder offers a wide selection of recording and viewing choices. The new model also incorporates several picture improvement technologies to create enhanced DVD recordings, which is especially effective when transferring personal content from analog video sources, such as VHS or 8mm camcorders.

In order to produce high-quality DVDs, the recorder is equipped with an easy to use, graphical user interface for simple interoperability via i.LINK™ (IEEE 1394) with DV and D8 camcorders. It also offers easy recording from broadcast programs via an off-air antenna, cable box or satellite receiver. The RDR-GX7 DVD dual RW recorder will be available in June for about $800.
