Toshiba MG06 Series Includes 10TB Enterprise Capacity SATA HDD
Toshiba today announced the addition of an 10-terabyte SATA model to its MG06 series of 3.5-inch, enterprise capacity class hard disk drives (HDD).
The new MG06 series deploys an improved magnetic recording head and disk magnetic layer, and delivers up to 10TB of capacity with air-based HDDs. That's a 25 percent capacity increase compared to prior generations.
The HDDs achieve a sustained transfer rate of 237 MiB/s and a 25% improvement in operating life that boosts MTTF to 2,500,000 hours. These improvements in capacity, speed and reliability can contribute to the lower system TCO (total cost of ownership).
The drive provides a SATA 6Gbit/s interface and 7,200 rpm performance. Additionally, the MG06 HDD supports emulated 512 Advanced Format (512e) technology for compatibility with legacy applications and operating environments; or 4K native sector technology for optimum performance in all-disk or hybrid storage platforms. Toshiba is also offering 512e models with support for SIE (Sanitize Instant Erase), which realize fast invalidation of data recorded on the disks, allowing for efficient disposal and reuse.
The MG06 Series is engineered for mid-line, nearline, and tier two business critical server and storage system workloads; including servers supporting application workloads that benefit from high capacity per spindle; capacity-optimized data center storage systems; and enterprise IT and data center servers supporting workloads per HDD of up to 550TB total bytes written and read per year. All models (10TB, 8TB and 6TB) feature Toshiba's Persistent Write Cache Technology for peak performance and enterprise-grade data reliability. Models also support power mode management capabilities that conform to HDD industry standards.
Sample shipments of the MG06 SATA HDD model are now available.
