2. The drive
As you see below we received a the 1TB Toshiba SSHD in bare drive form, without any specific packaging rather than the typical electrostatic free plastic bag.
The Toshiba SSHD features a black metal body with a silver cover and ships in both 7mm and 9.5mm form factors. The 7mm z-Height provides either 320GB or 500GB of storage, while the 9.5mm delivers either 750GB or 1TB -- the drive you see below. These form factors enable users of both typical and thin notebooks to fit an SSHD into theri devices:
The top side of the 1TB (MQ01ABDH100H) SSHD features a white drive information label. The sides present 4 screw holes for simple mounting, and the bottom features the circuit board. You can also see standard SATA and power connectors.With the drive taken apart, as you see below there 32MB of DRAM as wellas Toshiba's 8GB of MLC NAND. An Link-a-Media controller is for the NAND flash storage, and the Marvell 88i9317-RA12 is the HDD's controller.
The drive came with firmware Ver. AUF02A1 installed and as you see below, the available capacity for the user is 953.870 MB . The readout on CrystalDiskInfo shows that both NCQ and S.M.A.R.T. are enabled, the disk rotates at 5,400 RPM and and its interface is at SATA 6Gbps:
