Acer Delivers New Products For the Era of Touch and Type Duality
Acer today officially presented its offering of touch devices in forms and sizes to optimize the user experience, from tablet to Ultrabooks to the all-in-one desktop and touch monitor.
The new Windows 8 devices devices include the
Aspire S7 Ultrabook, the Iconia W5 convertible tablet PC, the
Iconia W7 tablet PC, the Aspire M Series of mainstream touch Ultrabooks, the Aspire V Series of touch notebooks, the Aspire U series of All-in-ones along with the T2 series of touch displays.
First previewed at Computex Taipei, the Aspire S7 Series Ultrabook uses premium material and construction methods to offer durability and usability. All models of the S7 Series feature a green unibody design made from a single block of aluminum. An electroluminescent (EL) backlit keyboard offers a more comfortable glow than LED backlit keyboards, automatically activating and adjusting its brightness based on ambient lighting. A thermal design, Acer TwinAir cooling (patent pending), extends battery life and keeps the Aspire S7's keyboard and base cool.
The Aspire S7 features a Full HD touchscreen surrounded by a scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 2 structure on the 13.3-inch model. The Gorilla Glass structure enables a mere 11.9 mm thickness with the strength to handle the impact of daily use. The touch-enabled screen can be laid back flat 180 degrees, and the image orientation reverses for easy touch-and-show sharing.
The 13.3-inch model also features a dual torque hinge on the lid to create the ideal amount of resistance for touch control. When the lid is pushed between 100 and 120 degrees, the torque increases 1.6 times to keep it stable for touch control.
Despite its ultra-thin design, the Aspire S7 packs 3rd generation Intel Core i5-3317UB or i7-3517U processors and solid state drives in a RAID 0 configuration. An embedded Li-Polymer battery provides up to 6 hours of battery life, and an optional second battery doubles computing time up to 12 hours.
In addition, the S7 ships with a micro HDMI to VGA cable for use with projectors for presentations, and a USB to RJ45 port for connecting to a wired network.
The Aspire S7 Ultrabooks also include Acer Green Instant On technology for fast boot and resume, and Acer Always Connect, which lets users manage their multimedia and data on all their devices at anytime, anywhere, even from sleep. They also ship with AcerCloud to provide users with remote access to the digital data residing on their Ultrabook via their tablet or smartphone, and share it among their other PCs and mobile devices.
The ICONIA W5 Series tablet offers three ways to work: "touch, type and view." As a 10.1-inch pad, this tablet offers users touch convenience and a 580g design. When typing is preferred, the tablet can be connected to the keyboard dock which offers full travel keys and a second battery which takes battery life from 9 to as much as 18 hours. The display can twist to 295 degrees for presentation display.
The 11.6-inch ICONIA W7 Series tablet and cradle combo is the only Intel Core tablet on the market. The cradle sits in portrait or landscape modes and tilts at different angles for easy browsing, sharing and touch control: landscape at 20 degrees for touch control; or landscape at 70 degrees for notebook-style viewing and keyboard productivity. The cradle also features a second battery for longer life, Dolby Home Theater v4 surround sound, Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution display and an optional Bluetooth keyboard.
The Aspire M5 and M3 Ultrabooks bring a touch experience to the mainstream consumer, offering 10-point touch, frameless HD display, Intel Core processing power, and 8+ hours battery life in a 23mm package.
The Aspire M3 is the first Acer Ultrabook to pack a next-generation NVIDIA GeForce GT640M GPU. It also flaunts Dolby Home Theater v4 audio enhancement and speakers.
The Aspire V5 Notebook builds further on Acer's mainstream touch offering, with 10-point touch, a larger trackpad designed to enhance multi-gesture content consumption to take advantage of the features offered by Windows 8, and a 30% slimmer 2-spindle design.

Both models are powered by 3rd generation Intel Core processors, and feature an optional SSD disk. Other features include Full HD webcam, a Blu-ray Disc optical drive, TV-tuner, multi-in-one card reader, HDMI-in and out.
