Toshiba Launches 15,000 RPM Enterprise HDDs
Toshiba has added the AL13SXB series and the self-encrypting AL13SXQ series to its lineup of enterprise performance hard disk drives.
The AL13SX series offers capacities up to 600GB, the largest-class storage capacity in a 15,000 RPM 2.5-inch design (15mm z-height). Toshiba says that the drives provide lower latency and power savings compared with legacy 3.5-inch 15,000 RPM 600GB models.
Toshiba is offering the choice of AL13SX drives (300GB, 450GB and 600GB) that support 512n (native), 512e (emulation) or 4Kn storage formats. The 4K native sector and 512e emulation models of the drives include Toshiba's persistent write cache technology for improved data integrity and performance. The long sector models (512e and 4Kn) reach sustained transfer rates up to 243 MiB/s - an increase of 27% compared to previous generation drives. The 512n models provide an increase of 19%, with sustained transfer rates reaching 228 MiB/s.
Toshiba is also offering its customers a Sanitize Devise Feature set[ function (Defined by T10, T13 of American National Standards Institute), which makes it possible to quickly invalidate data recorded on the magnetic disks.
The long sector models also provide persistent write cache technologies that help protect against data-loss in the event of sudden power loss.
The Japanese company will start shipping samples of the new HDDs from the middle of March.
