July 29 Won't Be The Day You'll Get Your Windows 10 Upgrade

Enterprise & IT Jul 2,2015 0

Microsoft clarified that the Windows 10 will officially launch on July 29 but that doesn't mean everyone will get the new operating system on that date. Microsoft says that in order to make sure all of you have a great upgrade experience, the roll-out of Windows 10 will be performed in phases to help manage the demand.

Ragarding hardware vendors aiming to roll out new PCs and tablets with Windows 10, Microsoft will soon deliver a build of Windows 10 to its hardware partners so they can start installing the OS on their devices. Soon after that, Microsoft will distribute a build of Windows 10 to retailers so they can help consumers, who buy devices still stuck with Windows 8.1, upgrade to Windows 10.Tested devices compatibile with Windows 10 will feature the sticker you see on the right.

Starting on July 29, Microsoft will start rolling out Windows 10 to Windows 10 testers - the Windows Insiders. From there, Microsoft will start notifying reserved systems in waves, slowly scaling up after July 29th. Each day of the roll-out, thenew OS may be updated for all Windows 10 users.

If you reserved your copy of Windows 10 - Windows 7 and 8.1 users - Microsoft will notify you once the compatibility test is a positive one and and Windows 10 has been downloaded on your system. Microsoft did not clarify how much time this compatibility testing will take.

If your system is not ready yet for your upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft will provide more details. In some cases, Microsoft will include contact information so you can follow up directly with an application provider or device manufacturer to learn more. For most upgrade incompatibilities, you may still choose to complete the upgrade, and find alternative compatible solutions in the Windows Store after you upgrade.

Microsoft's new Windows as a service model extends to enterprises and businesses as well. Windows 10 Pro will be available on July 29, along with Windows 10 Home. Volume licensing customers will be able to download Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education on Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) starting on August 1.

Window 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education offer a set of fundamentals of the Windows OS and a range of security, deployment and management features. Microsoft continue to introduce new features and updates in an ongoing manner, including Enterprise Data Protection later this year.
