Samsung to Acquire Zhilabs to Expand AI-Based Automation Portfolio

Samsung to Acquire Zhilabs to Expand AI-Based Automation Portfolio

Enterprise & IT Oct 17,2018 0

Samsung Electronics today announced its acquisition of Zhilabs, known for its Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based network and service analytics, to further enhance its 5G capabilities.

The acquisition lays the foundation for Samsung to foster its 5G offerings of automation and network analytics.

AI-based automation will play a central role in the introduction of new services in the 5G era, such as industrial Internet of Things (IoT) and connected cars, as carriers will require automated solutions and network analytics beyond what was possible in previous generations.

Established in 2008, Zhilabs provides analyses of network condition, performance, and data traffic for about 50 telecom companies. Zhilabs, fully owned by Samsung, will operate independently under its own management.

Samsung did not disclose the value of the deal, which marks the first announced acquisition in new technologies since companies in the Samsung group pledged in August a 25 trillion won ($22.23 billion) investment in artificial intelligence, 5G, electronic components for autos, and biopharmaceuticals.
