Samsung to Correct Galaxy S10 Fingerprint Problem

Samsung to Correct Galaxy S10 Fingerprint Problem

Smartphones Oct 17,2019 0

Samsung Electronics will release a software patch to fix problems with its flagship Galaxy S10 smartphone’s fingerprint recognition.

A user told the Sun newspaper earlier this week that a bug on her Galaxy S10 allowed it to be unlocked regardless of the biometric data registered in the device. After buying a third-party screen protector off eBay, her husband was able to unlock her phone using his fingerprint, even though it was not registered.

"This issue involved ultrasonic fingerprint sensors unlocking devices after recognizing 3-dimensional patterns appearing on certain silicone screen protecting cases as users’ fingerprints, "Samsung said. "To prevent any further issues, we advise that Galaxy Note10/10+ and S10/S10+/S10 5G users who use such covers to remove the cover, delete all previous fingerprints and newly register their fingerprints."

If you currently use front screen protective covers, to ensure optimum fingerprint scanning, refrain from using this cover until your device has been updated with a new software patch, Samsung suggests.

A software update is planned to be released as early as next week, and once updated, be sure to scan your fingerprint in its entirety, so that the all portions of your fingerprint, including the center and corners have been fully scanned.

Launched in March, Galaxy S10 series phones use an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. The scanner sends ultrasounds to detect 3D ridges of fingerprints to recognize users quickly.
