Adaptec’s USBControl allows consumers to easily manage and maximize USB peripherals

Adaptec’s USBControl allows consumers to easily manage and maximize USB peripherals

Enterprise & IT Jan 8,2002 0

Adaptec today announced USBControl, an innovative new USB software utility that enables consumers to easily manage and maximize the performance of USB 1.1 and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 peripherals. "Adaptec's solutions are known for their ease-of-use and we continually strive to improve the customer's experience," said Jeff Loebbaka, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Desktop Solutions Group. "USBControl enables consumers to easily monitor and manage USB peripheral performance. With this valuable real-time information, they are instantly aware of how a particular device is working and are helped to correct any problems if necessary. This new, easy-to-use software utility revolutionizes the desktop by bringing the power of device management directly to consumers."

"600 million Hi-Speed USB 2.0 peripherals are projected to be on the market by 2004," said David Manner, director of marketing for Adaptec's Desktop Solutions Group. "With the USB peripheral market growing four times faster than the PC market, it is essential for consumers to be able to manage all of the devices like CD-RW drives, scanners and digital cameras that are connected to their PCs."

USBControl is an intuitive, user-friendly graphic interface that provides detailed information on all USB peripherals connected to a PC. It provides a device tree that shows where devices are connected and detailed information on device speed, power, availability and the optimum configuration for maximum performance. The view screen is customizable and allows the user to select a device and trace its connection path back to the PC. This feature eliminates the need to crawl behind a PC to manually check device connections.

Users can select peripheral icons to match a particular device and color-coded icons to distinguish between multiple devices of the same type. A virtual LED feature allows users to see when data is being sent to or from a particular device, which is a great tool for USB devices that do not have built-in LED indicator lights.

These features allow users to quickly troubleshoot their USB peripherals and can warn of device failures. All of this information is presented in a non-technical format that is easy for users to view and manage with the click of a mouse. USBControl's detailed and easy-to-understand help system makes troubleshooting simple and provides answers to many commonly asked questions. It is available as a free download on Adaptec's web site at www.adaptec.com/usb and works with all of Adaptec's hi-speed USB 2.0 products and both Adaptec and Microsoft USB drivers.

Adaptec, the leader in USB 2.0 technology, offers consumers a complete family of high-performance USB 2.0 connectivity solutions for notebooks, PCs and Macs:

USB2Connect 3100LP - 4-port, low profile USB 2.0 host bus adapter (HBA)
USB2Connect 5100 - industry's only 6-port USB 2.0 HBA
XHub - innovative USB 2.0 hub made with durable materials and features: a steel cable management stand, easy-to-view LED indicator lights, customizable frame and a stay-put silicone
USB2Connect for Notebooks - brings the power of Hi-Speed USB 2.0 to users of mobile computers
DuoConnect - combination PCI card that features three USB 2.0 ports and four FireWire/1394 ports, video editing and DVD/CD creation software
USB 2.0 drivers - work with all Adaptec USB 2.0 products and support Microsoft Windows® 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium Edition operating systems

All of Adaptec's Hi-Speed USB 2.0 products are compatible with Windows XP and have been certified by the USB Implementers' Forum (USB-IF) with its Hi-Speed USB 2.0 logo and work with both USB 1.0 and USB 2.0 devices. Members of the USB-IF include PC industry leaders like Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Compaq, Dell and NEC and over 800 other companies. Leading peripheral OEM manufacturers test their new USB 2.0 devices with Adaptec's USB 2.0 solutions to ensure interoperability and compatibility and many recommend Adaptec's products for use with their peripherals.
