- What is I-O DATA AvelLink Player2?

The AvelLink Player2 is a stand alone (desktop) High Definition DVD player with increased networking features.

As I-O Data says "...I-O DATA's brand-new LinkPlayer allows you to playback various formatted files connect from any PC and/or Mac on the home network to a Big screen TV with a remote control. Moreover digital camera and USB memory can be connected directly through a USB 2.0/1.1 port to display files on a Big screen TV. LinkPlayer is compatible with Windows Media Video video (WMV9), DivX HD, and MPEG2-TS (HD 720p). HD mode allows you to enjoy pictures and movies in High-Definition (Video Up to 1080i / Photo Up to 2048x1532)..."

- Features

  • High Definition Playback

LinkPlayer2 can support HD mode for movie fans. The main chip (Sigma Designs EM8620L) decodes very high resolution video (no scaling). You can enjoy a movie theatre quality video on a big HD screen.

It can also playback Microsoft Windows Media® Video (WMV9) as well as MPEG1/2/4/ DivX. WMV HD, DivX HD, and MPEG2-TS (HD 720p) can be played as HD quality. And DVD-ROM and DVD Video, which are created on DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R or DVD-RW are all compatible.

*LinkPlayer doesn't have an upscaling function. The current market available DVD movie (480p SD) is displayed at 480p with no scaling, even if the LinkPlayer is set to 720p or 1080i HD mode. 720p DVD discs available on the market can be played at 720p output.

  • Networking

Due to its networking features, the AvelLink can be made part of either a wired or wireless LAN and play back most current Video/Audio formats with the use, of course, of the AvelLink Server software (more on this later). The USB1.1/2.0 interface, located on the front, can be further used to support the player's features, as can be seen below:

A simple scenario of a LAN would include a hub and perhaps three PCs as illustrated below. The AvelLink player is connected to the TV and plays back all possible video/audio files over the local network:
