Mitsui and Rimage to Create First-Ever Full-Surface Thermal Printing For DVD-R Media

Mitsui and Rimage to Create First-Ever Full-Surface Thermal Printing For DVD-R Media

General Interest Apr 10,2000 0

"..Mitsui and Rimage will showcase today, at AIIM2000, a new DVD-Recordable media--the first to allow full-surface printing on the face of the disc. As part of the announcement, Mitsui will give exclusive rights to the new DVD-R media to Rimage for an undisclosed period of time.

Mitsui's new media release is timed with Rimage's US announcement of the industry's first DVD-R publishing system. Rimage's new Perfect Image Producer 2000 Protege DVD-R will allow users to record and print on-demand DVD-Rs easily and efficiently. The system also includes Rimage's Prism printer, a full-color thermal transfer printer that is the fastest and most cost-effective printer in the industry. With Mitsui's new media, the Prism printer will be able to offer the first full-surface DVD-R printing available. The new system will be bundled with Mitsui's media.

To solve the limitation of partial-surface printing, Mitsui made a slight physical adjustment to the print side of all DVD-R discs, with no effect on the performance of the media whatsoever. Also, improvements in the media surface have ensured thermal printing remains consistent across the full line of Mitsui DVD-R media.

Innovators in the development of CD-R media, Mitsui's advancements in DVD-R media extend beyond improvements in surface printing. Mitsui developed a patented recording material for their DVD-R media which affords the massive storage data capabilities. This material guarantees Mitsui DVD-Rs come with the same long-life and high-compatibility of Mitsui CD-Rs.." NULL
