AOpen drives current modifications

- Convert your AOpen CRW1632 (16/10/32) to a 20/10/40 recorder:

The AOpen CRW1632 supports 16x writing, 10x re-writing, 32x reading, JustSpeed and JustLink technologies. The AOpen CRW2010 support 20x writing, 10x re-writing, 40x reading, JustSpeed and JustLink technologies. You can convert 1632 to the 2010 with a simple firmware update! First download this file.

- Extract contents
- Open rflash.exe
- Select from the drive's list the AOpen CRW1632 with v1.0? firmware.
- Select the AOpen 20x v1.00.bin and press start.

After the succeful firmware update message please shut down. If you wish to return to previous state just select the included AOpen CRW1632 v1.03 firmware and re-do the above steps.

After reboot the drive will be identified as 20X10X40 CD-RW v1.00 drive. The drive doesn't identified as AOpen CRW2010 but that's not so bad...Make sure that you have latest Nero 5.5.3.5 else the drive will not recognized. Other CDR software (like CloneCD, Padus DJ) has no problem recognizing the drive with the 20X10X40 CD-RW ID string. Some users have tried to convert the ID to AOpen CD-RW CRW2010 without success.

The drive has now 20x writing and 40x reading speeds. From some tests the drive seems to have the same performance with the Ricoh MP7200! 20x writing speed seems working ok. SD2 doesn't work in case you wondering....If you make the conversion please share your comments.

Update: The firmware package has been updated with AOpen 2040 v1.01 firmware which not only shows the drive as AOpen CRW2040 but also addresses some of the writing problems with the v1.00.
