Plextor announces first Serial ATA 12x

Plextor announces first Serial ATA 12x

General Interest Apr 28,2004 0

Plextor is launching the PX-712SA, a new internal dual DVD-writer with burning speeds up to 12x. Plextor's new DVD-writer works with a Serial ATA interface which guarantees even more convenience and ease of use. As a member of the Plextor family, the PX-712SA makes use of Plextor's advanced error correction technologies and the new release comes as a total package including professional software. SATA increases the bandwidth to 150 MB per second and replaces the traditional Parallel ATA (E-IDE) interface. The technology supports one device per controller connection and consigns fiddling with jumpers in the conventional Master/Slave configuration to the past. In addition, SATA works with far fewer pins and thinner cables, which greatly simplifies heat conduction and installation.

The Plextor PX-712SA can handle both DVD plus and DVD minus media. The device writes DVD+Rs at 12x, DVD+RWs at 4x, DVD-Rs at 8x and DVD-RWs at 4x. The burner writes and rewrites CDs at top speeds of 48x and 24x respectively. Of course you can continue to play your existing DVD (16x) and CD collection (48x).

Advanced error correction

High write speeds open the way for errors during writing. But not with the PX-712SA: the buffer memory of 8 MB and the built-in Buffer Underrun Proof (CD), Lossless Linking (DVD+R/W) and Zero Link (DVD-R/W) technologies eliminate the dreaded buffer underruns definitively. The PoweRec error correction (Plextor Optimised Writing Error Reduction Control) ensures that every disc is always used at the optimum write speed. The Q-check (C1/C2 error, FE/TE check, Beta/Jitter check and PI/PO check) provides you with the necessary information about the quality of the DVD or CD disc used. The PX-712SA is equipped with the GigaRec technology of its predecessor, the PX-712A: it enables you to store up to 1 GB of data on a CD recordable disc of 99 minutes - a gain in capacity of over 30%.

Secure and convenient

With Plextor's VariRec technology, you can optimise the sound quality of your recordings via 8 presets, and using the Background Formatting function, you can format the media at the same time as adding more data to the disc to be burnt. You can protect personal data with the SecuRec (CD) password protection: this ensures that you always have to enter a password before you can open the files - ideal, for example, for making and storing master discs with important data.

The software bundle supplied with the drive makes it the ideal total solution for data, audio, photo and video: Ahead Nero Burning ROM (CD/DVD mastering), Ahead InCD (packet writing), Nero BackItUp (back-up software), Pinnacle Studio (video editing), CyberLink PowerDVD (DVD player software) and PlexTools Professional (CD/DVD Utility software).

The Plextor PX-712SA will be available from June from Plextor sales outlets for a recommended retailprice of 199 euro (excl. VAT)*.

* incl. 2-year 'On-Site Collect & Return Service', where the end user, dealer or distributor can send the product back free of charge in the case of defect.
