DVD Recording Tests

- Writing Performance

The Samsung TS-H552 supports 16X for DVD+R, 16X for DVD-R, 4X for DVD±RW and 5X for DVD+R9.

Nero Burning Rom reported speeds are shown below, after inserting a Mitsubishi Chemicals DVD+R 16X certified disc.

We used CD-DVD Speed with DVD-R and DVD+R media, in order to check the writing strategy for each media. Click on the screenshots below for a complete CDSpeed graph.

- Burning Tests

• DVD+R/RW media

Best performance came with CMC Magnetics media, indicating a successfully firmware upgrade, as the previous firmware version on this drive ( the TS-H552B) burned the same disc at the max speed of 12X. Traxdata 16X media burned at the max speed of 12X.

• DVD-R/RW media

Best performance came with TDK 16X DVD-R media requiring only 5:17 for a full burn, while the Optodisc media was burned at the max speed of 12X.

- Comparison with other drives

Below are summarized the maximum speeds for each media format with our three drives.

- DVD Overburning Tests

Using Nero CD-DVD Speed, we tested to see if the drive is capable of overburning DVD+R and DVD-R media. Unfortunately, this feature is not included in the drive's advanced specs.
