Toshiba XG6 1TB SSD review
4. AS SSD benchmark
We move on with the AS SSD benchmark, which contains five synthetic as well as three practical tests. The synthetic tests determine the sequential and the random read / write performance of an SSD. These tests are carried out without using the operating system's cache. The Seq-test measures how long it takes to read and write an 1GB file. Most importantly, this sequential benchmark uses incompressible data for all of its transfers.
The AS SSD Benchmark completed with an overall score of 4,571 points and we were getting IOPs close to the figures rated by Toshiba - up to 355,000 IOPS read and 365,000 IOPS write.
Sequential speeds for the drive hit the 2700MB/s for reads and 2741MB/s write. The drive's 4K random speeds reached 52MB/s for read and 146MB/s for write, which are not as high as we expected, as a good SATA SSD could also provide a similar performance here. However, the drive's 64-thread 4K random read and write peformance was impressive.
The AS SSD Copy-Benchmark showed impressive results ranging from 1465.9 MB/s in the program workload and up to 2264 MB/s in the ISO test:
Next up we ran the Compression Benchmark built-into AS SSD. This test uses a mix of compressible and incompressible data and outputs both Read and Write throughput of the drive.
Toshiba's SSD showed a relatively stable behavior across the board, with some brief dips in the write graph:
