Sanyo and Fisher Video Products to Feature TVGuardian Foul Language Filter Technology

Sanyo and Fisher Video Products to Feature TVGuardian Foul Language Filter Technology

Optical Storage Jan 8,2002 0

Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. and Principle Solutions, Inc. have completed an agreement to include Principle Solutions' TVGuardian® -- Foul Language Filter(TM) technology in a new Sanyo DVD player, two VCRs and a DVD/VCR combo player to be marketed starting this spring in the United States. TVGuardian will also be built into a Fisher brand DVD player and Fisher DVD home theater system to be marketed by Sanyo Fisher Company. TVGuardian has previously been available only in a stand alone set-top box.

``Families who are concerned about the bad language frequently heard in today's movies will love how TVGuardian can automatically filter out the offending words when playing videos and DVDs at home,'' said Richard Miller, Vice President/Sales & Marketing at Sanyo Fisher Company. ``TVGuardian provides a great enhancement to the latest Sanyo and Fisher DVD and VCR products. It really works, and adults can choose to use it whenever they see fit.''

``We are excited to be working with a high tech market leader like Sanyo,'' said Rick Bray, Chairman of Principle Solutions. ``People use our TVGuardian set-top box to filter out objectionable language from movies and television programs, so it's a natural move to include our technology in Sanyo and Fisher DVD players and VCRs. Families can now enjoy watching movies without all of the bad language by simply turning the TVG® filter ON. They can even select a filter level that's right for their family.''

TVGuardian uses a patented process designed to detect profanity and other offensive phrases, mute the audio and modify the incoming closed captioned signal. The process consists of monitoring the closed captioned signal found on most videos and DVDs (not home movies) and checking each captioned word against a dictionary of foul words stored in TVGuardian. If an inappropriate word or phrase is detected, the audio is muted, the offensive word is removed from the closed captioned signal, and a suitable word is substituted, when appropriate.

Sanyo video products set to feature TVGuardian include: the DVW-5000 DVD/Hi-Fi VCR combo player featuring a fluorescent display ($229.99 suggested retail price, available in May 2002); the DWM-380 DVD player with component video out and fluorescent display ($139.99, April); the VWM-710 Hi-Fi VCR with universal remote ($79.99, April); and the VWM-410 4-head VCR with universal remote ($69.99, April).
