Toshiba to Launch 4K Ultra HD TV Series In Japan

Toshiba to Launch 4K Ultra HD TV Series In Japan

Consumer Electronics May 28,2013 0

Toshiba will launch a new series of high resolution 4K ultra HD TVs, the REGZA Z8X series, at the end of June in Japan. The new TVs will be available in 58-, 65- and 84-inch models, all with 4K LCD panel screens. All models integrate Toshiba's REGZA ENGINE CEVO 4K and Cinema 4K image processing system.

Toshiba developed the REGZA X3 series of 4K ultra HD TVs in December 2011. With the new Z8X series, Toshiba introduces an upgraded high resolution image processing system. The new REGZA Z8X series upscales standard HD images from digital broadcasts and Blu-ray Discs to close to 4K-image level. With Toshiba's optional external flat HDD, THD-450T1, which fits onto the back of the TV, viewers can record a maximum of six selected channels of digital terrestrial broadcasting for as long as 80 hours. The TVs also connect with Toshiba's TimeOn cloud service, which makes it easy to find content, share with friends and family.

The 84/65 -inch models also support stereoscopic 3D using passive 3D glasses, while the 58-inch model requires active 3D shutter glasses.

In addition, the new TVs support HybridCast, the new broadcasting and communications services provided in Japan by NHK and scheduled to start in 2013. Hybridcast is a system that uses the internet to make TV broadcasts interactive. It works by pushing HTML5 overlays to your tablet and TV, so you can play along with quiz shows or follow a travelogue from the comfort of your couch.

Toshiba said that the 84-inch model will retail for about 1.68 million yen ($16467.36).
