Treo 750 Poised for Cingular Debut:

Treo 750 Poised for Cingular Debut:

Smartphones Nov 2,2006 0

Not quite ready - but American version of the 750 said to be in the works. Europe's Vodafone was the first carrier to offer a new Windows Mobile-based smartphone from Palm, Inc., the Treo 750v. Since then, Palm's CEO has acknowledged that the 750 will be coming to the United States, but he declined to say exactly when or what carriers will be offering it. Just yesterday, an image of a Cingular Wireless version of this device has leaked out, giving an indication of at least one of the companies that will be selling this smartphone. However, this isn't necessarily a sign that this carrier will be offering a version of the Treo 750 anytime soon. According to the web site hosting the picture, the Cingular version is currently very unstable, and it seems a lot of work will need to be done before this unit is ready for release in the U.S. More About the Treo 750 The 750 is the first Treo model that runs Windows Mobile and uses the GSM wireless standard, and it also offers support for 3G cellular-wireless networks. The 750 greatly resembles previous smartphones from Palm, but, unlike its predecessors, it does not need an external antenna. It has a tablet design, with a 240-by-240-pixel touchscreen above an alphanumeric keyboard. It runs Window Mobile 5.2 for Pocket PC on a 300 MHz processor from Samsung. This device has 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of ROM, about 60 MB of which is available to uses as non-volatile internal storage. A miniSD card slot provides additional storage. This quad-band GSM phone also supports GPRS, EDGE, and UMTS. Palm hasn't yet made an official announcement of this, but the word on the street is that a software upgrade will add HSDPA support. In addition, it includes Bluetooth 1.2, and give users the ability to use wireless stereo headsets. This Treo has a 1.3 megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom. It is able to take both still images and video.
