Toshiba plans to sell off its Indonesian television factory, as the company's TV business reamains unprofitable.

The Japanese company is in final negotiations with electronics makers in Taiwan, China and elsewhere to sell subsidiary Toshiba Consumer Products Indonesia's TV plant in the country, Nikkei reports.

Toshiba would continue to meet Southeast Asian demand by licensing its name for use on other manufacturers' products. The company has already sold a TV plant in Poland to Taiwanese contract manufacturer Compal Electronics.

Toshiba also intends to quit TV production in Egypt, the report claims.

The company has been shrinking its loss-making TV business for several years. The replacement of overseas production and development with brand licensing has thus been in the works for some time.

Officially, Toshiba provided the following comment:

"The company is promoting fundamental structural reforms of businesses facing operating challenges, and toward this all possible measures are under review, without limitation. Measures under consideration for the Lifestyle business, including the TV business, include securing further improvements in business efficiencies and business restructuring with other companies. However, nothing has been decided at present, and no concrete agreements have been made with specific companies. "
