Fujitsu developed new 32bit RISC CPU for digital applications
Fujitsu developed a new 32bit RISC microprocessor series for digital applications such as DVD recorders or HDD recorders. The FR80 will be available in the market in 2004.
The advanced 0.18 micrometers architecture of the new CPU offers a maximum operation frequency of 200MHz, while the maximum MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) reaches the 259. The attained power consumption is also 0.54 mA/MIPS, which is possibly among the lowest in the world for such RISC devices.
In addition, the FR80 series utilizes a compatible command set with the conventional FR family, making it easier for developers to adopt it in their future designs.
