Elantec Introduces a New Four-Channel Laser Driver for the CD-R/W Market
"..Elantec today introduced a new laser driver that allows for more precise control of the laser's power. The EL6276C joins the highly successful Elantec family of laser driver ICs that have been designed specifically for the emerging high-growth CD-R/W optical disk drive market.
The EL6276C is compliant with the Orange Specification Standard for CD-R and CD-R/W write speed formats, and offers industry-standard laser driver functions and compatibility. Steve Sacarisen, the Director of the Optical Products Group at Elantec says, "The Orange Book Specifications require only three independent laser power levels for CD-R/W write strategy. The EL6276C has four independently controlled channels that can be used separately or in combination for read, erase, write and quench power levels. Having a fourth channel offers more precise control of the laser's power which, in turn, enables faster write speeds."
Furthermore, Mr. Sacarisen adds, "By integrating the four current channels needed for the read, erase, bias, and write laser drive power levels with a high frequency modulator (HFM), oscillator, and a high-speed power output current driver, the EL6276C reduces board space, component count, and design time and provides the flexibility required to optimize the design."
The EL6276C is available in a 24-pin QSOP package. Pricing for the EL6276C is $2.79 in 100-piece quantities.." NULL
